The Styrian Wirehaired Pointer was created between 1870 and 1890 by the Austrian breeder K. Peintinger from the Hanoverian Pointer and the Istrian Wirehaired Pointer (Istarski Ostrodlaki Gonic). The goal was to create a dog that was mobile, light and easy to use in high mountain conditions. It has all the good characteristics of the Hanoverian pointer.
