This breed of dogs from Germany is very old. Originally they were probably family dogs. Similar dogs were depicted as early as the 15th and 16th centuries by artists Jan Van Eyck and Albrecht Dürer. The Affenpinscher is a lively, cheerful and playful dog. He is fiery and has a lot of energy. Very affectionate, he is however sometimes stubborn. He may also tend to be hostile with strangers.
